If you're heading to Disneyland Resort during Halloween season, there is one event that deserves some serious consideration when you're planning your trip:
Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party.
And if you're a Disney Villains fan?
I would be looking at tickets immediately.
Oogie Boogie Bash takes over Disney California Adventure Park on select nights from August 18 through October 31, 2026. It's a separately ticketed, limited-capacity after-hours event filled with trick-or-treating, villains, exclusive entertainment, costumes, special food, attractions and one of the coolest Halloween experiences Disney offers: Villains Grove.
The actual party runs from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., giving you five hours of Halloween fun.
And while I love Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World, Oogie Boogie Bash has its own completely different personality.
It's a little darker.
A little more villainous.
And the character experiences are a HUGE part of what makes this event so special.
So...is Oogie Boogie Bash actually worth the extra ticket?
I think it absolutely can be.
Here's everything you need to know.
🎟️ First: What Exactly Is Oogie Boogie Bash?
Oogie Boogie Bash is Disneyland Resort's separately ticketed Halloween party, held at Disney California Adventure rather than Disneyland Park.
Your regular park admission doesn't automatically include the party. You'll need a specific Oogie Boogie Bash ticket to stay for the event.
Once the party begins, California Adventure transforms into a Halloween playground filled with immersive treat trails, villains, entertainment and special experiences created specifically for the event.
And like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Florida, this is meant to be family-friendly Halloween fun.
You're not walking into a horror event.
You're walking into a Disney Halloween party where the villains finally get their chance to be the stars.
And honestly?
They understand the assignment.
🍬 The Treat Trails Are SO Much More Than Trick-or-Treating
Okay, THIS is one of the biggest differences between Oogie Boogie Bash and your average Halloween event.
Yes, you can trick-or-treat.
Yes, adults can participate.
Yes, you should absolutely take the candy.
But Oogie Boogie Bash takes the concept much further with immersive treat trails.
Instead of simply walking up to a Cast Member, grabbing candy and moving along, several trails are built around Disney Villains.
You make your way through themed environments while the villains interact with guests from elaborate sets along the trail.
Disney describes these as immersive worlds overseen by some of its most mischievous characters, with candy including familiar Halloween favourites handed out along the way.
And THIS is where Oogie Boogie Bash really shines.
😈 The Villains Are Basically the Main Characters Here
Disney villains can be surprisingly difficult to meet during a normal Disney vacation.
Not at Oogie Boogie Bash.
This event is their time.
The exact lineup can change, but the 2026 event includes appearances from characters such as Yzma, Syndrome and Maleficent, along with other villains and rarely seen Disney characters.
And I LOVE the format.
Some of these aren't traditional meet-and-greets where you wait in line, pose for 30 seconds and leave.
You're moving through a treat trail while the villain is interacting with the crowd.
They're talking.
They're insulting people.
They're completely in character.
And because Disney changes and introduces characters over time, there's always that excitement around finding out who is going to show up this year.
If you're someone who loves Disney characters but has already met Mickey, Minnie and the princesses a million times...
Oogie Boogie Bash is where things get interesting.
🌲 Villains Grove Is Reason Enough to Experience Oogie Boogie Bash Once
One of the most unique things about Oogie Boogie Bash isn't a ride.
It isn't a character meet.
And it isn't a parade.
It's Villains Grove.
During the party, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail transforms into an atmospheric walkthrough inspired by Disney Villains.
But there aren't necessarily villains standing around everywhere.
Instead, Disney uses lighting, projections, sound, fog, music and environmental effects to make you feel like you've entered their worlds.
You'll move through areas inspired by characters including:
😈 Dr. Facilier
🐦⬛ Maleficent
❤️ Queen of Hearts
🦁 Scar
🍎 The Wicked Queen
🔔 Frollo
There's even an area inspired by the wisps before the experience eventually transitions toward "Dawn."
And this is something I would personally save until after dark.
The lighting is the experience.
You want the spooky nighttime atmosphere.
This isn't something I'd rush through either.
Take your time.
Look around.
Enjoy the music and effects.
Take photos.
Because Villains Grove is one of those experiences you simply cannot do during a normal day at Disney California Adventure.
👻 The Halloween Entertainment Is Exclusive to the Party
This is another reason I wouldn't spend the entire night running from ride to ride.
You're paying for experiences that don't happen during an ordinary park day.
SEE THEM.
The entertainment lineup is part of what turns the night from "California Adventure with candy" into an actual Halloween party.
For 2026, Disney has introduced Madame Leota's Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party, adding even more spooky entertainment to the event. There's even an optional separately priced dessert party with preferred viewing for the street party.
And then there's one of my favourite little atmospheric details…
🐎 Watch Out for the Headless Horseman
Imagine casually walking through Disney California Adventure at night...
And suddenly Ichabod Crane comes rushing through the park while trying to escape the Headless Horseman.
Because apparently that's just a normal Tuesday at Disney during Halloween.
Disney says the spooky encounter happens at select times during the evening, with Ichabod attempting to evade the Headless Horseman riding behind him.
It's those little moments that make these parties so much fun.
You don't necessarily need to plan your entire evening around every single one.
Sometimes you just stumble into Disney Halloween chaos.
🎢 Don't Forget About the RIDES
One of the advantages of a limited-capacity after-hours event is that you can potentially find shorter waits for select attractions.
Disney specifically highlights the opportunity to experience popular attractions during the party, including one that I would absolutely prioritize:
🚨 Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark
If you've only ridden the normal version of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, Halloween season gives you another reason to ride.
Monsters After Dark transforms the attraction into a completely different adventure later in the day.
And during Oogie Boogie Bash?
The atmosphere just fits.
Disney also notes that shorter waits for select attractions can be one of the benefits of attending the party.
That doesn't mean every attraction will always be a walk-on, but it can be a great opportunity to squeeze in some rides between party-exclusive experiences.
🎃 Cars Land at Halloween Is AMAZING
Even outside the exclusive party offerings, Disney California Adventure during Halloween season is just FUN.
Cars Land gets spooky seasonal touches, and attractions such as Mater's Graveyard JamBOOree become part of Disneyland Resort's wider Halloween Time celebration.
And Cars Land is already incredible after dark.
Add Halloween decorations?
YES.
I would absolutely make time to wander through rather than treating the park like a checklist.
Half the fun of a Disney Halloween event is simply being there.
👗 YES, You Can Wear a Costume!
One of my favourite things about Disney Halloween parties is getting to see what everyone wears.
Oogie Boogie Bash encourages guests to dress up, although Disney does have specific costume rules and safety guidelines you'll want to read before planning anything elaborate.
And people get CREATIVE.
Couples costumes.
Family costumes.
Villains.
Pixar characters.
Disney deep cuts.
Group costumes.
Or something super simple like themed ears and a Halloween shirt.
You don't have to dress up to enjoy the party, but it definitely adds to the atmosphere.
My one piece of practical advice?
Remember you're still in Southern California.
Do not create the world's most elaborate 14-layer villain costume and then realize at 6:07 p.m. that you're going to have to wear it for five hours.
Cute AND comfortable.
We can do both.
🍭 There Are Special Halloween Foods Too
Of course there are.
It's Disney.
Did we really think they were going to throw an entire Halloween party and NOT create themed snacks?
Oogie Boogie Bash features special food and beverage offerings during the event, giving you another category of things you'll somehow need to fit into five hours.
My advice is the same as it is for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party:
Look at the food options BEFORE you arrive.
Pick one or two things you really want.
Do not spend valuable party time staring at menus trying to decide what looks good.
You've got villains to see and candy to collect.
We have priorities.
🍰 There's Even an Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party
Want to make your Halloween party even more of a splurge?
There is an optional Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party.
It includes themed desserts and beverages along with preferred viewing for Madame Leota's Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party. This costs extra and requires an Oogie Boogie Bash event ticket; it is not included with standard party admission.
Would everyone need this?
Absolutely not.
But if this is a special trip and you really want guaranteed viewing paired with some Halloween treats, it could be worth considering.
🕸️ Oogie Boogie Bash vs. Regular Disneyland Halloween Time
This distinction is IMPORTANT.
You do not need an Oogie Boogie Bash ticket to experience Halloween at Disneyland Resort.
Disneyland's regular Halloween Time runs from August 21 through October 31, 2026, and plenty of seasonal experiences are included with normal park admission.
So if Oogie Boogie Bash doesn't fit your budget, or tickets sell out, you can still have an amazing Halloween Disneyland vacation.
But the Bash gives you access to experiences you won't get during a normal day.
That's the difference.
If your main priority is decorations and Halloween attraction overlays, regular Halloween Time might be enough.
If you want villain treat trails, exclusive after-hours entertainment, Villains Grove and the actual party experience?
That's when Oogie Boogie Bash becomes worth considering.
⏰ Five Hours Goes FAST, Don't Try to Do Everything
The official event runs from 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.
Five hours sounds like a long time.
It is not.
Not when your brain starts going:
"I want candy."
"I need to see that villain."
"Wait, where's Villains Grove?"
"Should we ride Guardians?"
"I need that snack."
"LOOK AT CARS LAND."
"Wait, there's another villain over there."
Suddenly it's 10:47.
If this is your first Oogie Boogie Bash, I'd prioritize the experiences you cannot do during a regular Disney California Adventure day.
My personal priority list would look something like:
🎃 Immersive villain treat trails
🌲 Villains Grove after dark
👻 Party-exclusive entertainment
😈 Rare villains and characters
🐎 The Headless Horseman/Ichabod Crane moment
🍬 Trick-or-treating
🎢 Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark
📸 Halloween photos and atmosphere
🍭 One or two special treats
Then fill extra time with regular attractions.
💰 So...Is Oogie Boogie Bash Worth the Money?
For 2026, general admission tickets start at $139 USD per guest ages 3+, with dates ranging as high as $199 USD for Halloween night.
That's obviously not cheap.
Especially when you're already paying for a Disneyland vacation.
So I wouldn't automatically tell every single family they HAVE to do it.
If you couldn't care less about Halloween...
Don't care about characters...
Don't care about villains...
And mainly want to ride attractions...
I probably wouldn't spend the extra money.
But if you're someone who LOVES:

😈 Disney Villains
🍬 Trick-or-treating
👗 Costumes
🌲 Immersive experiences
🎭 Exclusive entertainment
📸 Disney after dark
🎢 Lower-wait opportunities on select attractions

👻 Oogie Boogie Bash or Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?

And honestly?
They're different.
Mickey's Not-So-Scary has that classic Magic Kingdom Halloween feeling: Cinderella Castle, Boo-To-You, fireworks, Hocus Pocus and trick-or-treating around one of the most nostalgic Disney parks.
Oogie Boogie Bash leans much harder into Disney Villains, immersive treat trails and atmospheric experiences like Villains Grove.
If you love classic Disney Halloween?
MNSSHP.
If you're obsessed with Disney Villains?
Oogie Boogie Bash is going to be VERY hard to beat.
And if you're like me and just love Disney Halloween?
The correct answer might unfortunately be...
both.

🚨 One Thing You Need to Know: Tickets Can Be HARD to Get
This is not necessarily something I would plan to buy at the last minute.
Oogie Boogie Bash is a limited-capacity event, and Disney uses designated sales dates for tickets. For 2026, Magic Key presales took place June 16 and 17, followed by general sales beginning June 18.
If Oogie Boogie Bash is one of the main reasons you're planning a Halloween Disneyland trip, I would treat the ticket sale date like an actual event.
Know when sales open.
Know which nights work for your trip.
Have backup dates.
And don't assume you'll simply buy a ticket when you arrive in California.
🧡 Why I Think You Should Experience Oogie Boogie Bash At Least Once
What makes Oogie Boogie Bash appealing to me isn't simply that Disney California Adventure stays open late.
It's that you're getting a version of the park that feels completely different.
The villains come out.
You're walking through immersive treat trails collecting candy.
Redwood Creek becomes Villains Grove.
Characters you rarely see suddenly appear.
Guests are dressed up.
Halloween music and decorations are everywhere.
And you're experiencing California Adventure at night surrounded by people who specifically came because they love Disney Halloween.
That's what you're paying for.
Not simply five more hours in a theme park.
You're paying for the event.
And if Disney Villains and Halloween are your thing?
I think this is one Disney event that's absolutely worth putting on the bucket list.
