If you're visiting Walt Disney World during spooky season, there is one special event I think deserves a spot on your Disney bucket list:
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!
Magic Kingdom is already my favourite park for nostalgia, classic attractions and that unmistakable Disney feeling—but during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, the entire park gets a Halloween makeover.
We're talking trick-or-treating through Magic Kingdom, rare characters, special entertainment, Halloween attraction overlays, exclusive food and merchandise, costumes, an incredible parade and one of my favourite parts: experiencing Magic Kingdom late at night with a completely different atmosphere.
For 2026, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place on select nights August 7 through October 31. The official party runs from 7:00 p.m. until midnight, but your party ticket lets you enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4:00 p.m. That potentially gives you up to eight hours in the park.
So, is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party worth paying extra for?
I think it absolutely can be, and here's why.
🎟️ First: What Is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, or MNSSHP, as you'll often see Disney fans call it, is a separately ticketed Halloween event at Magic Kingdom.
That means your regular theme park ticket doesn't include admission to the party.
But the party ticket gets you access to experiences you won't find during an ordinary Magic Kingdom day, including exclusive Halloween entertainment, trick-or-treating, special character appearances, themed food, merchandise and Halloween twists on select attractions.
And the emphasis really is on "Not-So-Scary."
This isn't a Halloween Horror Nights-style event designed around haunted houses and scares.
It's Disney Halloween.
Think pumpkins, villains, costumes, candy, spooky music, Haunted Mansion ghosts and just enough eerie atmosphere to make it feel like Halloween without turning Magic Kingdom into something terrifying.
That makes it a really fun option for families, adults and Disney fans who love Halloween but aren't necessarily interested in being chased around by monsters all night.
🕓 Your Party Ticket Gets You Into Magic Kingdom at 4:00 PM
This is one of the biggest things I want people to know before looking at the price of a ticket.
The party doesn't officially begin until 7:00 p.m., but party guests can enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4:00 p.m.
That gives you three hours before the official event even starts.
Personally, I'd take advantage of every minute.
Get there for 4:00.
Take your castle photos.
Grab some food.
Ride a couple of attractions.
Get your party wristband and bearings.
Then when 7:00 hits, you're ready to focus on the experiences that are actually exclusive to the party.
If you're planning your vacation strategically, you could even make this your Magic Kingdom day rather than purchasing a regular park ticket for that same date.
Have a slow morning.
Sleep in.
Enjoy your resort.
Go to the pool.
Have lunch.
Then head to Magic Kingdom for 4:00 and stay until midnight.
That can be a VERY good Disney day.
🍬 Yes, Adults Can Trick-or-Treat Too!
One of the funniest things about Mickey's Not-So-Scary is watching grown adults suddenly become extremely serious about collecting Halloween candy.
And I fully support it.
There are more than a dozen trick-or-treat opportunities around Magic Kingdom, and Disney provides complimentary treat bags to party guests, including adults.
You make your way through the different treat trails and Cast Members hand out candy along the way.
And no, you don't have to wear a costume to participate.
If you have food allergies, Disney also offers an allergy-friendly trick-or-treating system with teal treat bags and allergy-friendly options.
You paid for the party.
Take the candy.
👻 Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade
If I had to give you ONE reason not to spend your entire party night riding attractions...
This parade would be it.
Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade is exclusive to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and it is everything I want from Disney Halloween.
The parade includes Mickey and friends in Halloween attire, Haunted Mansion-inspired performers and characters, Disney Villains and a Fantasyland-inspired finale.
But one of the coolest parts happens before the parade even gets going:
The Headless Horseman.
He rides along the parade route ahead of the procession, setting the tone for everything that's about to follow.
Then you get Haunted Mansion favourites including the Hitchhiking Ghosts and spectral Bride, plus villains and tons of Halloween energy.
And that music?
Good luck getting "Boo to You" out of your head afterward.
In 2026, the parade is scheduled twice nightly, with the first performance at 8:15 p.m., an earlier time that can be particularly helpful for families with younger children.
Do. Not. Skip. This. Parade.
🧙♀️ Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular
Calling all Hocus Pocus fans.
The Sanderson Sisters take over the Cinderella Castle stage for the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular.
Winifred, Mary and Sarah enlist some of Disney's most famous villains as they attempt to create the ultimate Halloween party potion.
You'll see villains including Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie and Maleficent, along with dancers, projections and special effects.
This is one of those shows that just FITS the atmosphere of the party.
You're standing in front of Cinderella Castle.
It's dark.
Everyone is dressed for Halloween.
Disney Villains are taking over the stage.
The Sanderson Sisters are causing chaos.
What more do you want from a Disney Halloween party?
🎆 Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular
And obviously...
We need Halloween fireworks.
Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular is the party-exclusive nighttime spectacular hosted by none other than Jack Skellington.
Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy find themselves on a Halloween adventure through a mysterious haunted house, encountering ghosts, skeletons and Disney Villains along the way.
The show combines fireworks, lasers, lighting and projections across Cinderella Castle, with appearances inspired by characters including Oogie Boogie, Ursula and the Queen of Hearts.
If you're a Nightmare Before Christmas fan, this alone adds another reason to go.
There's something about seeing Cinderella Castle covered in spooky projections while fireworks explode overhead that makes a Halloween night at Magic Kingdom feel completely different from a regular park day.
🎃 Characters You Don't Normally See
Character fans...
This is YOUR event.
One of the biggest draws of Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the opportunity to see Disney characters in special Halloween costumes, along with villains and other characters who aren't necessarily easy to meet during a regular park day.
Mickey and Minnie get into the Halloween spirit, villains can appear around the park, and there are plenty of fun character moments throughout the evening.
Some character lines can become very popular, so if there's someone you absolutely HAVE to meet, I'd prioritize them instead of assuming you'll casually stumble across them later.
💃 NEW for 2026: Party With Stitch!
There's something new for the 2026 party too!
Stitch is hosting an ever-changing masquerade dance party at Rocket Tower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland, with Lilo and Angel joining the fun.
This is exactly the type of thing I love about these events.
You can be running around collecting candy one minute...
Dancing with Stitch the next...
And watching the Headless Horseman ride through Magic Kingdom later that night.
It's chaotic in the best Disney way.
🎢 Some Magic Kingdom Rides Get Halloween Makeovers
Another reason I wouldn't spend ALL of my party time in attraction queues—but would absolutely make time for a few specific rides, is that some attractions receive special party-exclusive enhancements.
For 2026:
🚀 Space Mountain
Space Mountain runs in pitch-black darkness with spooky music.
Space Mountain is already dark.
Disney apparently decided:
"Not dark enough."
☕ Mad Tea Party
The teacups get special Halloween lighting effects, completely changing the atmosphere after dark.
😂 Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor
The attraction becomes part of the trick-or-treat fun with Halloween-themed jokes and candy.
And many regular Magic Kingdom attractions are also scheduled to operate during the party, including Haunted Mansion, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan's Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, TRON Lightcycle / Run and more.
👻 And Obviously You Need to Ride Haunted Mansion
Is Haunted Mansion dramatically different because it's Halloween?
That's not even the point.
It's Haunted Mansion. During a Halloween party. At night.
You have to.
I don't make the rules.
👗 You Can Wear a Costume to Magic Kingdom!
Here's another thing that makes Mickey's Not-So-Scary special:
Guests can dress up!
Disney encourages guests to get creative with Halloween costumes, although there are official costume guidelines you'll need to follow.
And seeing an entire Magic Kingdom full of families, couples, friend groups and Disney adults dressed up adds so much to the atmosphere.
You could coordinate your entire group.
Disney villains.
Princesses.
Toy Story.
Haunted Mansion.
Classic Mickey characters.
Or go completely obscure and see how many Disney fans understand your costume.
Just remember that Florida can still be HOT during Halloween season.
Maybe don't build a seven-layer costume that weighs 14 pounds.
You'll regret that decision by Tomorrowland.
🍭 Exclusive Halloween Food & Drinks
Disney doesn't just decorate the park for Halloween.
They decorate the FOOD too.
Party nights feature special seasonal treats, drinks and savoury dishes, including options exclusive to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
For 2026, Disney has introduced treats including Doom Buggy Dumplings and the Skull-icious Cake, while favourites such as the Buffalo Chicken Hand Pie and Ursula Cone return.
This is another reason I recommend looking at the party menu before you arrive.
You only have five official party hours.
You don't want to spend 20 minutes standing on Main Street trying to Google which Halloween dessert you saw on Instagram three weeks ago.
Know your priorities beforehand.
🛍️ Exclusive Mickey's Not-So-Scary Merchandise
Yes.
There's exclusive merchandise.
Of course there is.
Party-specific souvenirs can include apparel, accessories, drinkware, home décor and pins, with availability while supplies last.
The 2026 collection includes Halloween apparel and glow-in-the-dark Mickey ears among the event merchandise.
If exclusive Disney merchandise matters to you, I wouldn't leave shopping until 11:58 p.m.
🎃 Magic Kingdom Just FEELS Different
This might be the hardest part of the party to explain until you've experienced it.
Magic Kingdom at Halloween feels different.
Main Street is glowing.
There are pumpkins everywhere.
Guests are in costumes.
Halloween music is playing.
Villains are out.
People are carrying bags overflowing with candy.
The Haunted Mansion feels even more appropriate than usual.
Cinderella Castle becomes the backdrop for spooky entertainment.
And you're wandering around Magic Kingdom late at night surrounded by people who specifically came because they love Disney and Halloween.
You can't recreate that atmosphere during a regular park day.
⏰ You Have Limited Time, Don't Try to Do Everything
Here's the biggest mistake I think first-time party guests can make:
Trying to do absolutely everything.
You probably won't.
And that's okay!
If you've already spent another day at Magic Kingdom during your vacation, I would NOT use your expensive party hours waiting for attractions you can easily experience another day.
Prioritize what's exclusive.
My list would be:

Then fit regular rides around those things.
If you only have one opportunity to visit Magic Kingdom, obviously your strategy may look different.
💰 Is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Worth the Extra Money?
This is the big question.
2026 tickets range from $119 to $229 USD plus tax per person, depending on the event date.
That's not a small add-on, especially for a family.
So is it worth it?
If you don't care about Halloween, characters, parades or special entertainment and your only goal is riding Magic Kingdom attractions?
Maybe not.
But if you love Disney AND Halloween?
This event is something completely different from an ordinary Magic Kingdom day.
You're getting:

✨ Why I Think You Should Experience It At Least Once
You can visit Magic Kingdom over and over again.
You can ride Haunted Mansion again.
You can watch the regular fireworks again.
You can walk down Main Street again.
But Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party gives you a version of Magic Kingdom you simply don't get every day.
For a few hours, the park becomes one giant Disney Halloween celebration.
And whether you're five years old collecting candy...
35 years old collecting even MORE candy...
A Hocus Pocus fanatic...
A Disney Villains fan...
Or someone who just wants to see the Headless Horseman galloping through Magic Kingdom at night...
There's something incredibly fun about getting to experience Disney this way.
If your Walt Disney World vacation falls during party season and your budget allows for one special splurge?
